Everyone's a Winner!
Well into it's eighth year, The Carpenter's Arms @ All Saints', Mattersey, continues to welcome the local community of Mattersey and surrounding villages, to a Fun Quiz Night on the second Monday of each month. All are invited to the church hall at 7.30pm, bringing along their own nibbles and drink. Teams are generally made-up on the night, with new teams or individuals always made welcome.
The first team decision is to provide a team name on a theme decided by the question master (QM), Keith. The quiz then starts in earnest with a picture round and five themed rounds. You will hear a lot of heckling towards the QM, and don't forget that half-points are never allowed, unless the QM says otherwise! The final question is always a riddle with a point awarded for acceptable answers. (Apologies to those who only remember pre- 1970 Top-of-the-Pops or do not support Liverpool FC).
A game of card bingo is then held with the winner receiving a 'priceless' reward.
Following a raffle, the answers are provided and the scores totted-up. The team scores on the night are always close, but the winning team members each take away a token of the evening's entertainment. Recently this has included hedgehog doors to keep open hedgehog pathways through gardens, Santa facecloths and chocolate.
Games, such as dominoes, pass-the-pig, cards and 'Dobble' are then available to play, or you can just stay for a catch-up with friends.
Of special note are: the 'pie & pea' supper held last December, with grateful thanks to all the helpers; and a Murder Mystery Night, which called upon the superlative acting skills of four special volunteers/victims; both of which raised funds for church. Last year we also held a Carpenter's Coin Collection which raised funds to twin-a-toilet in Tanzania and raised awareness of hygiene poverty.
All Saints' PCC are grateful for the support of visitors to The Carpenter's Arms, for the raffle prizes provided and the raffle tickets bought.
You are invited to join us on 10 February & 10 March if you are available, and remember to car share if you can. We look forward to seeing you there.
